Getting here from Clarksville

Our office is at 8820 Columbia 100 Parkway in Columbia. From Clarksville, including River Hill and the neighborhoods along Route 108, the drive is typically fifteen to twenty minutes.

Because a course of TMS runs across multiple sessions over a period of weeks rather than a single visit, the practical question for Clarksville families is not only whether the treatment is right but whether the schedule is sustainable. Our Clinical Coordinator works through that with you at the consultation, before any commitment is made.

A note on the Clarksville and River Hill context

Western Howard County has a particular pattern that comes up often in our consultations: academically high-achieving students in demanding school environments, families with strong access to care, and adolescents who have often already been through therapy and one or more medication trials before anyone raises TMS.

That pattern matters clinically. It usually means the teen sitting in the evaluation has a documented treatment history, which is exactly what an adolescent TMS assessment requires, and it often means the family has already done considerable work and is looking for what comes next rather than starting from the beginning.

It also means the depression has frequently been present for a while. Dr. Greenberger’s evaluation looks at that full history rather than at a snapshot.

Who we treat

Adults with major depressive disorder who have not achieved satisfactory improvement from antidepressant medication during their current episode.

Adults with depression and co-occurring anxiety symptoms. NeuroStar is indicated for decreasing anxiety symptoms in adult MDD patients who exhibit comorbid anxiety. See TMS for anxious depression.

Adults with OCD, for whom NeuroStar is indicated as an adjunct treatment. See TMS for OCD.

Adolescents ages 15 to 21 with major depressive disorder, for whom NeuroStar is indicated as an adjunct treatment. See TMS for teens.

Why the physician matters here

Adolescent TMS should be overseen by someone trained in adolescent psychiatry. Depression does not present the same way at sixteen as it does at forty, and neither does the response to treatment.

Dr. Greenberger is board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry as well as adult psychiatry, with more than twenty years treating patients across a range of mental health needs. He owns the practice and serves as its medical director, and he personally conducts the evaluations and the motor threshold determinations.

For Clarksville families weighing whether the drive is worth it, that is usually the deciding factor.

What treatment involves

Free consultation. 30 to 60 minutes with our Clinical Coordinator, covering how TMS works and whether you may be a candidate. No cost, no obligation.

Evaluation. A 60 minute appointment with Dr. Greenberger reviewing your mental health and psychiatric history.

Motor threshold determination. On your first treatment day, Dr. Greenberger and a certified TMS Treater locate your individual treatment site and determine your dose. This visit lasts about 60 to 90 minutes and includes the first treatment.

Treatment course. Coordinates are recorded so later sessions start without repeating setup. Patients stay awake and alert throughout and resume normal activity the same day.

What the evidence shows

In a large registry study of patients treated with NeuroStar TMS, 83 percent of those who completed the treatment course showed measurable improvement in depression symptoms, and 62 percent no longer met the diagnostic criteria for major depressive disorder afterward (Sackeim et al., 2020, Journal of Affective Disorders).

Individual results vary. The purpose of the evaluation is to determine whether TMS is a reasonable option for your specific situation.

When you find a practice full of compassion and professionalism you know you are in the right place. There are not enough words to describe how appreciative I am for the for the Collaborative Counseling Group. All the doctors are incredibly smart and thorough.
